Prof. Dr. Savera Mujib Shami

Prof. Dr. Savera Mujib Shami is a distinguished academic, media scholar, researcher, journalist, and institution builder. With a Ph.D. in Communication Studies and international exposure at Arizona State University, Dr. Shami has contributed extensively to research on political communication, social media, and the socio-cultural impact of digital technologies. Her work has been recognized at prestigious international forums across the globe.

She is the Founding Chairperson of the Department of Digital Media, University of the Punjab, where she established one of Pakistan's leading digital media departments and has contributed to developing industry-oriented curricula, strengthening academia-industry linkages, and promoting innovation in digital education. As a member of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) National Curriculum Review Committee, she has helped modernize media and communication education and has supported universities across Pakistan in developing contemporary digital media programs.

Prof. Dr. Shami is widely recognized as one of Pakistan's leading voices on Media and Information Literacy, misinformation, digital resilience, online safety, and AI in media. She served as the Research Lead for UNESCO's initiative to develop Pakistan's first-ever National Media and Information Literacy Framework and has led digital resilience initiatives supported by the Canadian High Commission. She also secured funding for the CIRCLE (Co-creating Inclusive Research Culture and Leadership Environments) project under the University of Glasgow's GCID Small Grants Fund (2026–27), establishing one of the first research collaborations between the Department of Digital Media, University of the Punjab, and the University of Glasgow.

Beyond academia, Prof. Dr. Shami has made significant contributions to journalism and public discourse through her work as an editorial writer, researcher, trainer, and public speaker. She is an active voice on social media, where she advocates for responsible digital engagement, media ethics, education, women's empowerment, youth development, and informed civic participation. Her research focuses on digital media, misinformation and disinformation, political communication, media trust, audience behavior, AI and emerging technologies, and digital literacy, with numerous publications, national policy contributions, and international collaborations.
